The last two days have reached 93 degrees and humid. That is hot for this New England girl. Jas wanted to put in the air conditioner last weekend and i told him we didn't need it yet. Then he went away to work for the week…..and it's really sticky. Ha!
But I'm not complaining, after the months of ice, snow and frigid temps, I like to feel a little warmth around me. Our gardens and flowers love this weather. The tomatoes have flowered, the squash and cucumbers are growing inches every day. And the lettuce and greens are over-flowing. It is amazing to just go out back and pick our salad greens for dinner.
And our strawberries? Holy moly. Another six quarts picked last weekend. With already two rounds of jam done and over a dozen bags frozen in the freezer, it was decided that a strawberry rhubarb pie was in order.
We left last Saturday and headed for Maine to spend the afternoon on the beach and have a nice seafood dinner. It was so nice to scoot over there for an afternoon and smell the salty, humid ocean air. I always forget how close we are to the ocean, remembering my youth in VT and being four plus hours away. Such a gift.
Charlie and i went on a long ride last night and got lost. We both needed a little breeze blowing on our face. Sanbornton back country roads remind me so much of Vermont. It's magical.
It's been thundering and down-pouring all afternoon. Everything is so alive in the summer. Tomorrow we head to Vermont for the 4th and to meet up with both of my brothers (and families) at my parents house. Thank goodness for long weekends!
